Homeowners in South West Wales Could Soon Receive £9,000 Towards a Heat Pump Installation
If your home is heated by oil or LPG and you're not connected to the mains gas network, there is great news on the horizon.
From 21 July 2026, eligible homeowners will be able to access a £9,000 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant towards the installation of an air source heat pump or ground source heat pump.
This represents an increase of £1,500 on the current £7,500 grant available today.
The funding boost is aimed specifically at off-grid properties, helping more homeowners make the switch from expensive fossil fuels to efficient, low-carbon heating systems.
For rural homes across South West Wales, including Swansea, Neath Port Talbot, Bridgend, Brecon, Cardiff and Carmarthenshire, this could make heat pumps more affordable than ever before.

What Is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a government-backed grant run by OFGEM and designed to encourage homeowners to replace fossil fuel heating systems with renewable heating technologies.
The grant is applied as an upfront discount by your installer, reducing the amount you pay for your new heating system.
From July 2026, eligible off-gas grid homes heated by oil or LPG will be able to claim:
£9,000 towards an Air Source Heat Pump
£9,000 towards a Ground Source Heat Pump
This additional funding could significantly reduce installation costs and improve the return on investment for homeowners considering renewable heating.
Who Is Eligible for the New £9,000 Heat Pump Grant?
To qualify for the increased grant, your property must:
Be off the mains gas grid.
Not have a gas meter.
Not be connected to a heat network.
Not be a new-build property.
Currently use oil or LPG as the primary heating source.
The increased grant applies only to:
Air-to-water air source heat pumps
Ground source heat pumps
The uplift does not apply to:
Biomass boilers
Air-to-air heat pumps
Why Off-Grid Homeowners Are Switching to Heat Pumps
Many rural homes rely on oil or LPG heating, leaving homeowners exposed to fluctuating fuel prices and increasing running costs.
Modern air source heat pumps offer a cleaner, more efficient alternative by extracting renewable heat from the outside air and using it to heat your home and hot water.
Benefits include:
Lower Running Costs
Heat pumps can significantly reduce heating bills compared to older oil and LPG systems, particularly in well-insulated homes.
Reduced Carbon Emissions
Switching from oil or LPG to a heat pump can dramatically lower your household carbon footprint.
Future-Proof Your Home
As the UK continues its transition towards low-carbon heating, heat pumps are becoming the preferred choice for homeowners looking to increase energy efficiency and property value.
Generous Government Funding
With a £9,000 grant available from July 2026, there has never been a better time for off-grid homeowners to consider renewable heating.
Clean and fume-free home environment
Heat pumps do not burn fossil fuels, so there are no nasty emissions around your home. the Air is clean.
Important: The New Grant Starts on 21 July 2026
Only Boiler Upgrade Scheme voucher applications submitted on or after 21 July 2026 will qualify for the increased £9,000 grant.
Applications submitted before this date will remain eligible for the current £7,500 grant.
If you're planning a heat pump installation in 2026, it's worth speaking to an accredited installer now (like us) to understand your options and prepare for the changes.
