£9,000 Heat Pump Grant: Off-Grid Homeowners Have Until March 2027
The £1,500 heat pump grant uplift is available now – but installations need to be completed before the deadline
If your home is off the mains gas network and currently heated by oil or LPG, you could be eligible for a £9,000 Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) grant towards a new heat pump.
That's £1,500 more than the standard £7,500 grant.
But there is an important deadline.
The increased £9,000 grant is currently available only until 31 March 2027, so if you're considering replacing your oil or LPG heating system, now is the time to start planning.
At Limitless Energy, we're already booking heat pump installations into 2027.
If you want to take advantage of the additional £1,500 funding, don't leave it until the last minute.

What is the £9,000 heat pump grant?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is a government-funded scheme administered by Ofgem to help homeowners move away from fossil fuel heating and install renewable heating systems.
For eligible off-grid homes currently heated by oil or LPG, the grant can provide:
£9,000 towards an air source heat pump
£9,000 towards a ground source heat pump
The grant is applied as a discount to the cost of your installation by your MCS-certified installer.
For eligible homeowners, the additional £1,500 funding can make a significant difference to the overall cost of installing a heat pump.
Who can qualify for the £9,000 grant?
The increased grant is aimed at properties that are off the mains gas grid and currently use oil or LPG as their main heating system.
Your property must meet the Boiler Upgrade Scheme eligibility requirements, and the new heating system must be an eligible heat pump.
The £9,000 grant applies to:
Air-to-water air source heat pumps
Ground source heat pumps
It does not apply to air-to-air heat pumps or biomass boilers.
If you're unsure whether your property qualifies, we can assess this as part of your initial heat pump survey, or even through an initial phone conversation.
The important part: the March 2027 deadline
The £9,000 grant isn't a permanent increase to the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
The current £1,500 uplift is due to end on 31 March 2027.
This is why we're encouraging homeowners to start the process now.
A heat pump installation isn't something that can necessarily be arranged at short notice.
Before installation, we need to assess your property, design the system, agree the quotation, carry out heat loss calculations, arrange the necessary BUS paperwork and schedule the installation.
And our installation diary is already filling up.
We're already booking into 2027
At Limitless Energy, we're now booking heat pump installations into next year.
If you're hoping to benefit from the full £9,000 grant, we recommend getting your survey and quotation arranged as soon as possible.
Waiting until February or March could leave you with limited options if installation dates become limited.
The sooner you start the process, the more options you'll have.
Why replace oil or LPG with a heat pump?
For many rural and off-grid homes, oil and LPG have been the traditional way of providing heating and hot water.
A modern heat pump offers an alternative that uses electricity to extract renewable heat from the air or ground rather than burning fossil fuel.
Depending on your property and existing heating system, a heat pump can offer:
Lower reliance on fossil fuels
You can reduce your dependence on oil or LPG and move towards a renewable heating system.
Efficient heating
Heat pumps are designed to provide heating efficiently at lower flow temperatures, particularly when paired with suitable insulation and emitters.
No oil deliveries or onsite fuel storage
Moving away from an oil-fired heating system can also mean no more oil deliveries or the need to store heating oil on your property.
A more renewable home
A heat pump can work particularly well alongside solar PV and battery storage, allowing homeowners to generate and use more of their own renewable electricity.
What happens if I want a heat pump?
At Limitless Energy, we take care of the process from the initial assessment through to installation.
We'll look at:
Your existing heating system
Your home's heat loss
Radiators and/or underfloor heating
Hot water requirements
Insulation and energy efficiency
The most suitable heat pump size
Your electrical supply
The best location for the heat pump
Your eligibility for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme
We'll then design a system specifically for your property rather than simply replacing your existing boiler with a heat pump of the same size.
